Looking for some serious flatfish action? You've found the right spot. Captain and crew at Endeavor Sportfishing know exactly where those monster doormat fluke hang out around Nantucket Shoals, and we're ready to put you on them. This isn't your typical harbor fishing - we're talking about world-class offshore grounds where the big summer flounder come to feed. With just 4 anglers max per trip, you'll get the personal attention and prime fishing spots that make all the difference when you're chasing trophy fluke.
We'll head out to the legendary Nantucket Shoals, some of the most renowned fluke fishing grounds on the East Coast. These underwater plateaus and drop-offs create the perfect habitat for doormat fluke, and we've been fishing these waters long enough to know exactly where they stack up. The trip runs during prime season from June through September when the big girls move in to feed. You'll be fishing structure that ranges from 60 to 120 feet, targeting those sandy bottom areas and edges where fluke love to ambush baitfish. The boat holds just 4 passengers, so there's plenty of room to work and no elbow-to-elbow fishing like you'd find on the party boats. Bring your own lunch and drinks - we keep the focus on fishing, not catering.
Fluke fishing is all about the drift, and that's where our local knowledge really pays off. We'll set up long drifts over productive bottom structure, using bucktails tipped with squid strips, gulp baits, or live killies when we can get them. The key is keeping your bait moving just off the bottom - fluke are ambush predators and they want to see that bait swimming naturally through their strike zone. We'll rig you up with the right tackle, typically 6-7 foot medium-heavy rods with conventional reels loaded with 30-40 pound braid. The sinker weights vary depending on current and depth, usually anywhere from 4 to 8 ounces to keep you in the zone. When the tide's running hard, we might switch to a spinner rig with a teaser above the main jig. The captain will position the boat perfectly for each drift, reading the current, wind, and bottom structure to give everyone the best shot at a keeper.
Summer flounder around Nantucket Shoals are the stuff of legend, and there's good reason anglers travel from all over New England to fish these grounds. These fish can reach impressive sizes - we're talking about fluke that can push 8-10 pounds, with the occasional true doormat breaking into double digits. What makes summer flounder so exciting to target is their aggressive strike and the challenge of finding them. They're not randomly scattered across the bottom - these fish position themselves strategically along edges, over structure, and in areas with good current flow where baitfish get pushed around. The best fishing typically happens during the summer months when water temperatures are in the sweet spot and the bait is thick. Fluke are also excellent table fare, with sweet, flaky white meat that's perfect for everything from fish tacos to a classic New England fish dinner. The regulations change yearly, but we always make sure you know the current size limits and bag limits before we head out. Landing a keeper fluke on these grounds is something every serious angler should experience at least once.
The Nantucket Shoals produce some of the best fluke fishing on the East Coast, and spots fill up fast during peak season. With our small group size and top-rated captain who knows these waters inside and out, you're getting a customer favorite experience that beats the crowded party boats every time. Whether you're a seasoned fluke angler or new to bottom fishing, we'll put you in the right spots and help you boat some quality fish. The summer season runs from June through September, so plan accordingly and book early for the best dates. This is trending as one of the hottest fluke fisheries in New England, and once you fish it, you'll understand why anglers keep coming back year after year.
Summer flounder, or fluke as we call them locally, are the chameleons of our sandy bottom. These flatfish lie camouflaged on the seafloor with both eyes on their left side, waiting to ambush baitfish like sand eels and squid. Out here on Nantucket Shoals, we target them in 30-80 feet over sand and mud bottom from June through September when they're feeding heavy before their fall migration. The bigger females - those prized "doormats" over 5 pounds - put up a solid fight once hooked, and nothing beats fresh fluke on the dinner table. They bite sideways due to their unique jaw structure, so when you feel that subtle tap-tap, give them a second to turn the bait before setting the hook. The key is keeping your sinker just bouncing bottom as we drift - too heavy and you'll miss the bite, too light and you won't stay in the strike zone where these bottom-huggers are waiting.
